Do You Need an EV Charger Post? Value Square Post Explained

The Short Answer

A charger mounting post lets you install an EV charger away from a wall, on a driveway, car port or parking bay with no suitable wall within cable reach. The Value Square Post is ON-EV's entry-level ground-rooted post, compatible with 21 charger models, priced from £153.99 with a single mounting plate or from £207.99 for two chargers on one post.

Do You Need a Charger Post?

Most home installs mount the charger on an external wall. It's the cheapest, simplest option when one sits within cable reach of the parking space. A post makes sense when there's no wall close enough, or when the house wall sits on the wrong side of the driveway for a sensible cable run. It also works when you want the charger positioned independently of the building, mid-driveway or at the edge of a car port. A post is also the practical route for two EVs on one property, since a single post can carry two mounting plates.

Compatible Chargers

The Value Square Post is built to fit 21 charger models, covering most of the brands ON-EV stocks: Easee One, EO Mini Pro 3, Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, Ohme Home Pro, Ohme ePod, myenergi Zappi and Zappi GLO, Zaptec Go, NexBlue, Rolec Evo, Indra Smart Lux, Indra Smart Pro, Pod Point Solo 3, Project EV Apex, EVEC Universal, Sevadis, Sigenergy, Sync EV, VCHRGD Seven, Seren and WAEV. If your charger isn't on this list, check with ON-EV before ordering, since the mounting plate is model-specific.

Single vs Twin Mounting Plate

Most chargers on the compatibility list price at £164.99 for one mounting plate or £218.99 for two, letting a single post carry chargers for two EVs. The Sevadis is priced differently: £153.99 single, £207.99 twin, because it uses the charger's own integrated bracket rather than a separate ON-EV mounting plate. Charging two vehicles at the same property, a twin-plate post costs less and looks tidier than installing two separate single posts.

Post vs Wall Bracket: Which Do You Need?

If a wall sits within your charger's cable reach, compare a wall bracket first. ON-EV's Wall Bracket (Standard Stainless Steel) starts at £197.99 and mounts directly to brick or render. If there's no suitable wall, or you want the charger positioned away from the building, the Value Square Post is the ground-rooted alternative. At £153.99 to £164.99 for a single mounting plate, it's also the lowest-cost option in ON-EV's post and bracket range. A Premium Stainless Steel Charger Post (from £241.99) and Swan Neck Wall Bracket (from £291.99) sit above it for a more finished appearance.

Installation

Installers set the Value Square Post in the ground on a concrete footing and run the supply cable underground in ducting from your consumer unit or dedicated circuit to the base of the post. It's installer work: an underground cable run and a load-bearing footing that has to hold the post and charger securely for years.
