Does this charger work with my car?
This charger uses a universal Type 2 connector, compatible with all major EVs including Tesla (with adapter), BMW, VW, Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, Volvo, Polestar, and more.
What does installation involve?

Do I need a dedicated circuit?
Yes, a dedicated 32A circuit is required. Your electrician will confirm your consumer unit has capacity.
Can I claim the OZEV grant?
Yes. If you own your home and have an eligible EV, you can claim up to £500 off the cost of a charge point and installation. We are OZEV-approved.

Why pay more, installed with new consumer unit under 3 hours. 7 pence per kilowatt compared to 85 pence @ my local Instavolt chargers.
Very easy to install, the results amazing if you have your own lead. When you boot it up and do not use the app make sure you press the button underneath 5 times to trigger the adhoc charging, it will beep when it’s ready, extremely please with the price and the quality
6k miles in and the Evec charger has been faultless. Easy to install and use. The connectively and app work fine. Looks nice on the wall and relatively compact. I'm very happy I went cheaper for a charger as I can't see why you would pay more!
The device won't work without extra parts, so had to order those to get it to operate.Not a simple thing to install because of the design.Not great instructions or app, why is there all 3 phases shown on a single phase device?Hope the device works better than the install went, yes it's installed, so I don't want to send it back as I paid for this, and that cost more than the unit!

This is an amazing bit of kit, I got 20% so was an amazing price considering how much the cost would be to have one professional installed through a dealership. It’s good quality relatively easy to install and looks fab. It’s easy to use either through manual mode or through the easy to use app. It genuinely takes all the stress out of home charging and at a good speed. For the tech heads you can see real time data through the app. I really regret using a trickle charger for so long.

Good quality EV charger for the home. Up to 7.4kW power (adjustable). The model I tested is Untethered, meaning it doesn't come with a charging cable. You'll need to use the cable supplied by your car manufacturer, or buy one separatelyNote that you'll need a qualified electrician to install this charger in your home.You control and configure the charger using the Evec app (iOs or Android). The app is OK, but a bit clunky in places. I would have preferred to have some traditional knobs/buttons on the charger itself, so my phone and Internet connection weren't required.Excellent value for money compared to other similar devices.
This EV charger is really compact and looks smart and well made.We have already got another EV charger on our driveway for my husband’s car, which is on one wall, but my car (which will soon also be an EV, I plan to change imminently) parks on the other side of the driveway so for us to both take advantage of the cheap overnight charging, we will be getting this new charger installed on the other side of the driveway. We got an electrician to do the last one, and will again with this one, to be sure that the fitting meets all standards etc.The instructions with it are nice and easy to understand, and I have downloaded the app, which also seems clear to understand. It seems just as good as our other charger, but is just a bit smaller and smarter-looking!Recommended.
This is going to be installed at my new home by an electrician as I don’t want to do anything wrong. It seems ideal for anyone with a driveway and WiFi ! The instructions for use seem to be clear and the app has useful features to charge at the best value. It does seem ideal for anyone who recently got a EV but want to charge at home for better value power.
evec VEC01 | EV charger | Electric Vehicle ChargerI received the untethered model which as I understand it doesn't arrive with a cable, whereas the tethered model is complete with a built in cable. I don't actually own an electric vehicle, but I suspect a charging cable should be provided with the car, so this model may be the cheaper option. This particular charger has a lift up door on the front which reveals the charging point where a cable can be plugged in. There are a couple of small boxes included which hold various items as listed below.The main charging unit itself is as expected very heavy, although it is smaller than I had imagined. The body of the unit is made from tough looking ABS type plastic, which seems very durable indeed. On the rear is a removable metal mounting bracket, the bracket can be removed and mounted on a wall using the supplied mounting template. Once in place the charger can be fixed to the bracket using the side screws. This does need to be installed by a qualified electrician as a certain amount of mains wiring will be needed.Once in place, an app will need to be downloaded to your phone so this can be correctly setup and operated. There are 2 x QR codes on the side of the unit, these will allow you to download the correct software for your phone type, Android and IOS are supported.The charger is protected from temperatures ranging from -25 to 50 degrees Celsius. It has an IP55 rating which translates to the following: 'IP55 Protected from limited dust ingress. Protected from low pressure water jets from any direction.'. So the charger is water resistant to a degree, making it suitable for outdoor use. Although I wouldn't mount this where heavy water will be running over it. Personally I would mount this where there is a little protection from the weather.As far as features go, I'm really not that familiar with electric vehicle specs, but this is claimed to be a smart charger that supports both Type 1 and Type 2 connectors. When in use a green light will illuminate to show the vehicle is on charge, this light will change to different colours to alert you to various issues that are clearly explained in the user guide.Overall, a well made unit that provides the freedom to charge your vehicle overnight at home. Wake up to a fully charged battery for your days use. Common Questions
Do I need a professional to install my EV charger?
Yes - all home EV charger installations in the UK must be carried out by an OZEV-approved electrician. It's not just best practice, it's a legal requirement under BS 7671 wiring regulations. The charger also won't be eligible for the government grant unless an approved installer fits it.
Can I claim the OZEV grant when buying through ON-EV?
Yes. The OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant gives eligible homeowners up to £350 off the cost of buying and installing a home charger. To qualify you need to use an OZEV-approved installer - the grant covers both the unit and the labour. Your installer will usually handle the application for you.
What's the difference between a tethered and untethered charger?
A tethered charger has a cable permanently attached - you just unclip and plug in. Untethered has a socket so you supply your own Type 2 cable. Most home users prefer tethered for convenience. Untethered suits you if you drive more than one EV or want a cleaner look when the car isn't plugged in.
What's the difference between a 3.6kW and 7.4kW charger?
A 7.4kW charger is roughly twice as fast - 60kWh battery takes around 8 hours on 7.4kW vs 16 on 3.6kW. Most modern EVs and UK homes can handle 7.4kW on a standard single-phase supply, so unless your car or electrical setup limits you, go for the 7.4kW. It's the more future-proof option.
Do I need planning permission for a home EV charger?
In most cases, no. Home EV chargers fall under permitted development in the UK. The exceptions are listed buildings and some flats - if your property falls into either of those, check with your local authority before ordering.
Can I use my EV charger with solar panels?
Yes, and it's a great combination. Solar-compatible chargers like the Myenergi Zappi can detect excess energy from your panels and automatically divert it to charge your car - so instead of exporting it back to the grid, you're charging for free.
